University of Caxias do Sul officially certified with the SDG Education 2023 Seal
Institutional Repository, ForMigra, UCS Municipalities and UCS Senior were evidenced among 39 Brazilian institutions committed to the Sustainable Development Goals
The University of Caxias do Sul is among the 39 Educational Institutions in Brazil certified in the second stage of the SDG Education 2023 Seal. The certifications were delivered on March 5, at the Escola Paulista da Magistratura (EPM), in São Paulo. At the time, the roundtable “Dialogues on the SDGs in Education” was held, with the presence of representatives of various entities related to sustainable development.
In this edition, 889 social impact projects were identified, through 360 projects developed by public and private educational institutions. The four projects registered by UCS – UCS Institutional Repository, ForMigra, UCS Municipalities and UCS Senior – were certified. In January, the University obtained the renewal of the certification received in 2022 and renewed for the following year.
The initiative aims to recognize projects that contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in addition to stimulating the participation of education units in initiatives that help achieve the goals of the 2030 Agenda of the United Nations (UN).
Composed of 17 SDGs related to environmental and social agendas, deployed in another 169 goals, the Agenda focuses on overcoming the main development challenges faced by the world’s population in defending rights, combating inequality and respecting the planet.
The criteria for certification of educational institutions with the SDG EDU Seal are:
• Register projects on the platform in the areas of teaching, research, extension and management;
• Promote an activity and/or discussion spaces on the SDGs in the institution;
• Demonstrate its contribution to improving SDG 4 – Quality education.
After the project insertion period, a protocol is generated that summarizes the number of initiatives, their respective results and the impacted SDGs.
Institutional Repository
The Institutional Repository of UCS is the platform that stores the memory of the Institution, bringing together all the intellectual material produced by the academics, including final papers, monographs, dissertations and theses. Its mission is to promote the University at the national and international level, through the dissemination of information in open access in search of valuing scientific, academic, artistic, technical and administrative production.
ForMigra
The Education and Training Program in Human Mobility and Forced Displacement (ForMigra) is promoted by the Congregation of the Missionary Sisters of São Carlos Borromeo-Scalabrinianas, through the Migrant Service Center (CAM), in Caxias do Sul, together with five universities – UCS is one of them. Its goal is to prepare people for the care of migrants and refugees.
UCS Municípios
UCS Municípios promotes permanent debate with regional coordinators and municipal departments of education, with the target audience being public school teachers. It was created to stimulate discussion among professionals and authorities in the educational area on issues related to human, scientific and technological, community and organizational development, with the aim of meeting emerging needs and qualifying work processes.
UCS Senior
Created 33 years ago, the Program UCS Senior presents a universe of possibilities for the elderly, in different areas of knowledge. Classes and activities focused on education and longevity for people over 50 years old take place in face-to-face and synchronous online formats. The program also offers as a benefit for students from 55 years old, enrolled in one of the undergraduate courses in the face-to-face modality (except in the Medicine course) or in Stricto Sensu graduate courses (doctorate and master degrees), the discount of 25% in the value of the contracted subjects. Currently, the project has 733 students.
