Programa de Pós-Graduação em Educação

The Program

The Graduate Program in Education (PPGEdu), recommended by CAPES, offers Master's and Doctoral degrees in Education, organized into three research lines: History and Philosophy of Education; Education and Teacher Training: Languages, Technologies and Inclusion; and Educational Scenarios, Policies and Foundations of Education. These research lines emerge from the Program's pedagogical and sociopolitical commitment to addressing socioeducational demands and, at the same time, give concrete expression to this commitment through the production and dissemination of knowledge in the field.

Education is understood as a social practice and encompasses research on, within, and for educational praxis. From a broad perspective, it is conceived through lifelong educational processes aimed at humanization, socialization, and instruction.

The Program aims to train highly qualified researchers and professionals committed to innovation, quality enhancement, diversity, and social inclusion, for work in Basic and Higher Education, as well as in non-school contexts. This training is grounded in ethical and research-oriented attitudes that culminate in proactive actions at the regional and national levels, articulated internationally, and contributing to the construction of a sustainable and democratic society. Through theoretical and methodological in-depth study in the respective field of research, the Program seeks to enhance the production of scientific research and the practice of socially relevant teaching.

The Master's and Doctoral programs are open to candidates from different fields of knowledge, provided that their research proposals are aligned with the Program's research lines. Admission to the Master's Program requires an undergraduate degree; admission to the Doctoral Program requires, in addition to an undergraduate degree, a Master's degree.

The Master's Program in Education at the University of Caxias do Sul was approved by CAPES in December 2007 and began its activities in March 2008. Since then, the Program has consolidated its activities through the articulation of its research lines, the research conducted by its faculty, the resulting publications, teaching activities, and the Master's theses defended by its students. The set of activities developed by PPGEdu/UCS reaffirms its commitment to debate and the production of scientific knowledge aimed at understanding and improving educational realities at the regional, national, and international levels.
