Extension Program Social Innovation and Sustainability (2016)

In 2016, the "Social Innovation and Sustainability Extension Program", developed by the PPGA/UCS, under the coordination of PhD Professor Maria Emília Camargo and Post-Doctorate Scholar Dr. Marcia Rohr da Cruz, with the aim of providing residents of the neighborhood of Euzébio Beltrão de Queiroz, in the city of Caxias do Sul, with opportunities to count on activities in several areas of knowledge that may help changing habits, behaviors and attitudes that will lead to new opportunities and possibilities for This project has funding from the Extension Coordination of the University of Caxias do Sul covering the participation of students and professors from different undergraduate courses at UCS.

From the beginning, every Wednesday, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., teachers and academics carry out activities with the aforesaid community, among which the actions taken by the following courses stand out:

  • Administration, Economics and Accounting - Carried out orientation activities on family budget and planning for own business.
  • Architecture and Urbanism - They promoted a workshop to build a refuge.
  • Pharmacy, Veterinary Medicine and Medicine - Held a game on the rational use of medicines.
  • Physiotherapy - They promoted postural orientation activities.
  • Nursing - Perform blood pressure tests, cholesterolemia and glucose, as well as first aid simulation, as well as orientation activities on sexually transmitted diseases.
  • Nutrition - They carried out a Mathematics Workshop of the candies, still in partnership with SESI, promoted the action "Brazilian Cuisine - Whole Food Use", when the community will make recipes guided by SESI nutritionist and Nutrition course.
  • Physical Education - Coordinated play and recreational activities (with traditional toys such as peteca, pé de lata, 5 Marias, Tic-tac-toe, and jump rope) and physical exercises (gymnastics, dance and stretches).
  • Pedagogy - Performed face painting on children, as well as Story Time and school reinforcement;
  • Architecture and Urbanism - Drafting of the model depicting the community. After the execution of the model, an interaction was made with the community, when the residents identified the places and their residence. They also built their houses to distribute in the model and a survey was made on how the community was, how it is today and how they imagine the future. With the children, a mental map was drawn, where they designed what they liked about the community.
  • Music - Workshop for the construction of musical instruments.
  • Fashion Design - In partnership with the Bank of Clothing there will be guidance on the making of costumes for the Samba School of the community and a workshop for use of fabrics with the Mothers' Club.
  • Law - Lecture and guidance on legislation.
