Professional M.S. Program in Production Engineering

The Graduate Program in Production Engineering started its activities in the first semester of 2016, offering its Professional M.S. degree in Production Engineering, approved and recommended by \Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES), within the framework of the field of Engineering III. It has a goal to form master degree practitioners who are able to apply scientific methods to solve problems, carrying out scientific applied research to stablish transforming practices in production systems.

Area of Concentration

A concentration in Quality and Production Managing allows a wide scope of applied research in issues related to systems of production of goods and services, both in their process aspect (production system flow management) and in their decision level (strategic/tactic/operational), or even in themes related to value added by these systems (quality, efficiency and effectivity).

Research Lines

The Master degree is structured in two lines of research:

  • Modeling and Analysis of Quality and Production Systems - Focuses on solution of decision-making or management problems at tactic-operational level, using methods such as quantitative or qualitative-quantitative, static or dynamic, uni or multivariate, deterministic or probabilistic.
  • Strategies of Quality and Production Systems - Concentrates interests related to strategic-tactic or long-term decision-making processes, in which uncertainty or characteristics of scope go beyond the capacity of purely quantitative decisions, requiring other methods for decision-making and quality and production management.

Egress Profile

The student will be qualified as a practitioner of Production Engineering able to properly adopt techniques and scientific methods for modelling and analysis of quality and manufacturing problems, under strategic or tactic-operational decision-making conditions. This profile, spread over industrial and service environments, will serve as a connection between academia and business in the implementation of transforming practices, according to Portaria Normativa nº7 da CAPES, de 22 de junho de 2009, the norm that regulates professional Master´s Programs in Brazil.

In this sense, it is expected the egress be capable of:

  • articulating knowledge to analyze and comprehend problem-situations at different levels of complexity;
  • identifying demands, equating problems and proposing solutions in the context of operation and quality management, from a transforming practice of reality in which it interacts;
  • stablishing sustainable strategies in management of operations and quality in intra- and inter-organizational environments;
  • planning, projecting and generating sustainable processes, products and services, maximizing financial results; and
  • developing his/her own potential of critical and research competence in order to permanently be able to learn how to learn, proposing solutions to the various challenges he/she faces.

Selection Process

Admission in the Master Program is annual and the selecting process is regulated by public notice of Pró-Reitoria de Pesquisa e Pós-Graduação (Graduate\. Admissions are allowed up to 20 a year. The selecting process is classificatory and is conducted by a Selection Committee appointed by the Program.
